Quotes from the Cloud #9

This year, I hope share weekly posts of quotes. These quotes are from authors I'm reading and enjoying from the Clouds of Witnesses Reading Challenge

For fellow participants, what I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see is for people to share quotes from what they're reading. I'd love for you to share quotes occasionally with your readers and let me know about it. If you don't have a blog, you could always leave quotes in the comments here.
We do not want to be beginners. But let us be convinced of the fact that we will never be anything else but beginners, all our life. ~ Thomas Merton
All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or the other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. ~ C.S. Lewis
Someone in your home is following in your footsteps. Where are you leading him? ~ J. Vernon McGee, Ecclesiastes
We do not fear God anymore. We do not dread Him anymore. He is our buddy and wants only to help us be the best kind of people we can possibly be. Today's preaching focuses on entertaining. If we can entertain the people, we can keep them. If we cannot keep the people, the church cannot grow. Therefore, whatever gets the people in and keeps them, that is what preachers are committed to. And that one word, entertainment, is in my mind a blasphemous word in the Christian culture. ~ A.W. Tozer
