Faith 'n' Fiction Saturday: Best of 2009

Today I am curious as to what were the top novels you read in 2009 that dealt with faith. While these books don't need to have been published by a Christian publishing house, I'm hoping that the books you list will have grappled with faith in a significant way.

The Frontiersman's Daughter by Laura Frantz. 2009. Revell. 412 pages.
Lady of Milkweed Manor by Julie Klassen. 2007. Bethany House. 412 pages.

My favorite faith novel will always be "Gilead" by Marilyn Robinson (sp?). Quite possibly one of the best novels I've ever read, in general, and definitely the best Christian novel I've ever read.

On a side note, while this isn't (at all) a Christian novel, "Pillars of the Earth" is a novel written about a priest in the middle ages, by an atheist, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. This priest (Prior Phillip is the name of the character) is on my top five list of best characters of all time in fiction. He is really an amazing person, and one of the best treatments of a clergyperson I have seen, ever, in mainstream fiction. So given the fact that the author was an atheist, I always am amazed at how much I can identify with that character.

Anyway, just popped by and thought I'd comment. Great blog.

Peace,
Rebecca
