57. Hand to Hold. JJ Heller. 2021. 40 pages. [Source: Library] [4 stars, picture book]
First sentence: Trees are made for climbing. Days are made for sun. Puddles are for jumping. Fields are made to run. Stars are made for counting and for wishes coming true. Sleep is made for dreaming, and I have dreams for you. Stones are made for skipping. Stories are to tell. Life is made for living. I pray you live it well.
Hand to Hold is a picture book adaptation of JJ Heller's lullaby, "Hand to Hold."
I have only recently discovered JJ Heller's music. It was--and is--LOVE at first listen. While "Hand to Hold" isn't my absolute favorite and best song of her work, it is a great song. I can see why it was chosen to adapt in picture book format. It's a lovely picture book to share with little ones--toddlers, preschoolers, pre-K, etc. It would be good for a family read aloud as well with multiple ages of children.
It's sweet, adorable, playful. And the message, of course, is solid. A parents' love is unconditional.
