Veggie Review: Duke and the Great Pie War

Do you have a favorite Veggie Tales? One of my favorites is Duke and the Great Pie War. The moral lesson of this video is "Loving Your Family." It contains two short stories and a silly song. The silly song is Larry Sings the Blues. I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see Larry sing the blues because he truly doesn't get it. He just doesn't know how to be sad and blue. He's too optimistic to sing the blues, which ultimately leads to a fun polka!

The first story is "Baby Sitter in De Nile." Viewers see a not-so-happy Miriam in her role of big sister. She does not like having to take care of the new baby. In this adaptation, Miriam doesn't grasp--at least not until her parents explain it to her a bit better--the danger her baby brother is in. If you know the story--found in Exodus--you'll know that baby boys were to be killed. I really enjoyed this adaptation. The sometimes-clueless and often-selfish Miriam is easy to relate to perhaps for the youngest viewers who may be dealing with new baby brothers or sisters of their own.  Miriam's song is "What Can a Baby Do?"

The second story is "Duke and the Great Pie War." This one stars Larry (Duke Duke), Bob (Lucas), Madame Blueberry (Nona), and Sweet Petunia, the Rhubarbarian. It is an adaption of the story of Ruth, Boaz, and Naomi. I just LOVE this story! It is quite cleverly written with plenty of jokes. (I loved the "serf music" for example!)

Meant to Be

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song!!! I do! It is from Veggie Tale's It's A Meaningful Life. (The video is great too. I loved the story. Loved little Emma. Loved so many of the songs really.) The highlight, for me, is this new song by Steven Curtis Chapman.

The Pickle Gets a Sippy Cup

Veggie Tales: Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella. (August 2009)

This is Minnesota Cuke's second adventure. And while I remember enjoying the first--quite a lot actually since it was one of the first Veggie episodes I watched--I really, really loved this one. I loved everything about it. Larry stars as 'Minnesota Cuke.' And this time the search is on--a bit reluctantly at first--for Noah's Ark. Mr. Muffet ( is building a goldfish pond for his backyard, and he thinks Noah's Ark will complement it perfectly. But he isn't Muffet's first choice--Professor Rattan, his first choice, has gone missing. It is because of his friendship for Rattan--not Muffet's eccentricity--that he takes on the case. The first clue takes him to Mexico where he is reunited with the beautiful Julia. But this reunion is brief as Julia is kidnapped... Now he's off to find Julia, Professor Rattan, and if time permits...Noah's ark. This one introduces a new villain, Wicker, who is wicked and wily. This villain isn't after the ark, he's after Noah's umbrella.

The silly song. Not every silly song works for me. Some are funnier or should I say sillier than others--The Monkey Song currently holds the #1 spot in my heart. But I really, really, really loved this Sippy-Cup themed silly song.
