I strongly recommend the New Revised Standard Version for anyone interested in a careful and accurate rendering of the Greek New Testament into English. I am less knowledgeable about Hebrew, but everything leads me to believe it is equally accurate for the Hebrew Scriptures.
I am delighted people are reading the Bible. Read the Gospels and interpret the rest accordingly.
