Question of the Week #11

Welcome to the tenth edition of "Question of the Week"...please answer in the comments OR write a blog post of your own and leave me a link to your answers! Feel free to borrow the graphic as well.

Have you ever watched Veggie Tales? If yes, do you have a favorite episode? a favorite character? a favorite song? Do you think it's good biblical fun? Or do you think its just silly and more a waste of time?
I just love the Veggie Tales. I do. I don't remember when I first "discovered" them. It was probably five or six years ago. I've got DVDs and CDs. Junior is my favorite character--though I love the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything--the pirates are Larry, Mr. Lunt, and Pa Grape. As for a favorite episode...I have a top five:

An Easter Carol
Rack, Shack and Benny
A Snoodle's Tale
Dave and the Giant Pickle
King George and the Ducky

An Easter Carol is the one I'd highly recommend. Its the one with the strongest message. And Snoodle's Tale gets to me too. All of the videos are fun--in my opinion.

My favorite silly song? I just *love* The Monkey song--which is written by Andrew Peterson, by the way...

Here's a timely clip for St. Patrick's Day.

Yes, our daughter is almost 13 now, but we had almost all of the original videos on tape.

I think that my favorite out of all of them is still Josh and the Big Wall

Junior is my favorite character, my favorite song is "Good Morning George" (I still wake my daughter up each morning singing that!)

I think it is a great way to instill Bible truths in our children. Jesus used parables to teach, and Veggie Tales is just another way to saturate children with the truths of Scripture. After many years of not watching them anymore, we still tie Purple Slushies to Joshua's march around Jericho, and pizza delivery to Daniel and the Lions Den. Some may think that is wrong, but personally if I can take everyday things like Slushies and Pizza and remember Biblical truths because of it...I think it's great!

Love the new blog skin.

I had never seen veggie tales at all until your two clips. Very well done. I can see now why they are so popular. I always just thought talking vegetables were stupid and I never rented any of the movies for my kids. I missed out! They're hysterical.

I discovered veggie tales when our son, who is now 10, was just a toddler. I loved it. They get the point across from Bible stories in a way that is natural and not preachy and stilted. Son loved them also. My favorite was the one about Jonah. That story stuck with son.

I have mixed feelings on Veggie Tales. They are cute and do a good job of telling the Bible story but changing the Bible characters names bothers me. I forget the characters of the one about Jonah but our pastor had second thoughts on Veggie tales when they were reading the story of Jonah to the kids and they wanted to know why the names were not right in the Bible story.

Snugglebug is too young for Veggie Tales just yet so I will give them a try down the road but possibly with limits.
