Book Review: The Psalms of David

The Psalms of David. Illustrated by James S. Freemantle. 1982. 352 pages. [Source: Bought]

James S. Freemantle spent years--decades--illuminating the book of Psalms.

The project started as a loving gift to his new bride--Clara--in 1918. He finished the work in 1933.

The text he illuminated--as you might have guessed--is the King James Version. All the psalms are handwritten. Some words are illuminated. Sometimes entire verses are illuminated. Illustrations are featured throughout.

If you love the book of Psalms, if you appreciate vintage art, this one is worth seeking out. I love the colors!!! Though the text is at times difficult to read. The art is amazing!
