Heaven in the Real World (1994)

Our faith is a sung faith. (Mike Cosper, Rhythms of Grace, 152)

It has been almost twenty years since the album, "Heaven in the Real World" was released by Steven Curtis Chapman. The songs on this album are, "Heaven in the Real World," "King of the Jungle," "Dancing with the Dinosaur," "The Mountain," "Treasure of You," "Love and Learn," "Burn the Ships," "Remember Your Chains," "Heartbeat of Heaven," "Still Listening," "Facts are Facts," and "Miracle of Mercy."

There are so many great songs on this album: songs about grace and mercy, songs about truth, songs celebrating the gospel--Christ, songs about commitment, songs about finding peace in God's sovereignty. These are songs with a message; songs that you can join in singing!

From "Dancing with the Dinosaur"

There's a banner waving saying tolerance will set you free, it's the latest thing
While the consequences it leaves behind are like a ball and chain
But there's a voice in everyone called conscience
That's been around since God created man
And as we learn to listen to its whispering
We'll find the greater freedom when we stand up and sing

I'm dancing with the dinosaur
Living my life with conscience and conviction
I don't want to see the truth ignored
So I've gotta keep on dancing
I've gotta keep on dancing with the dinosaur

Right is right and wrong is wrong just like it has been along
We cannot sit by and see conscience become history
So come on, get up and dance
Dance this dance with me

From "Burn the Ships"

In the spring of new beginnings
a searching heart set sail
looking for a new life
and a love that would not fail.
on the shores of grace and mercy
it landed with great joy.
but the enemy was waiting
to steal kill and destroy
Quietly he whispered
"sail back to the life you know"
But the one who led us here was saying
Burn the ships!
We're here to stay.
There's no way we could go back now that
we've come this far by faith
Burn the ships.
We've passed the point of no return.
Our life is here so let the ships burn.
Let 'em burn!"

From "Remember Your Chains"

Remember your chains
Remember the prison that once held you
Before the love of God broke through
Remember the place you were without grace
When you see where you are now
Remember your chains
And remember your chains are gone

From "Facts Are Facts"

These days some say there's no one way to believe
Just keep it loose, you're free to choose
There's no absolute it's all relative you see
Calling all defenders of the truth
Live a life that spells out God's worldview
Let these words be heard in everything you say and do
I know there's a God who knows my name
And a Son who died to take the blame
I believe that Jesus is coming back
'cause promises are promises and facts are facts
As sure as there's a law of gravity
That says what goes up must come down
This is the ultimate reality
That God is, and God loves, and God can be found
